Receive Text UpdatesI was an assistant hunting and fishing guide in Iliamna, Alaska during my 20's. Guest were hunting for bear, caribou, and moose or fishing for salmon, trout, arctic char, and grayling. Over time, I created a smoked salmon and dill dumpling chowder that is spectacular. The smokiness of the salmon fresh from Alaskan waters and spices of earthly flavors give it a beautiful taste finished off with a light and airy dill dumpling on top.
Who is your culinary inspiration? My inspiration was from my Grandparents on my father's side of the family. They made everything from homemade breads, to cakes, to marinated meats, canned goods the Best gravies and sauces you could ever imagine. I can remember the smells of early childhood days of my Grandparents home smelling of my Grandfather's cigars and my Grandmother's Butterscotch oatmeal cookies. The aroma still is with me to this day! I actually took up cooking when I was 10 years .
What would you do with the $25,000?I am not entering the contest for the money, but rather for the experience and personal satisfaction. I have worked as a professional chef, ran a catering company, lived in Nashville, Europe, Seattle, Alaska and traveled extensively through Asia. I would give some of my winnings to a culinary school to help other students that need financial help. Otherwise, I would open my own place which has always been a dream of mine to come true! My passion is food!!!
