Tamales are my bread and butter. I can make tamales, that will transport you back to your mamas kitchen in Mexico but on the other hand I can make you shrimp and grits that will have you scrapping your plate, wanting more. I think my signature is using quality ingredients, good technique and good ol' cooking from the heart, into a meal you'll remember.
Who is your culinary inspiration?People. Seeing a guest face when they take that first bite, keeps me inspired to stay true to what I know. Quality ingredients being prepared simply, will make outstanding dishes. BUT most of all, it brings people together, it starts conversation, and it creates everlasting memories. Food is love.
What would you do with the $25,000?First and foremost, I would be overwhelmed with gratitude. There are a lot of people who have been supporting me in my journey as a chef and in this competition. So, if I win the 25k...I would put it towards opening my own restaurant they can enjoy. Creating a space for everyone to feel welcomed while enjoying delicious food and bringing people together. Strangers into friends. Also, this opportunity will allow me to make a difference in my community on a scale bigger than I currently can.
