What is your signature dish?

My signature dish is called “chicken makhani danish”. A combination of my favorite childhood dish, along with one of the first doughs I learned how to laminate in pastry school. This hand laminated dough is flaky, buttery with the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Filled with a tomato fenugreek cream sauce, oven-roasted tandoori chicken, topped with fresh cilantro and charred lime rains. Who is your culinary inspiration?

My mother has always been my inspiration. Having the privilege of eating her food growing up made me realize how much love is put into every dish. She always told me to never cook when you are upset or in a bad mood - because food should only be made with love. My grandma inspired my mom to get in the kitchen at a young age and shadow her elders. Pakistani cuisine is not only made up of a rich history and a plethora of spices, but a focus on the soul of a dish. I do everything to make them proud

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have this dream of opening the first Pakistani French Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN. Growing up, when my parents when craving a childhood dish - they had to make it themselves due to the absence of Pakistani cuisine in our state. I want my generation to taste the love and soul of Pakistani steeet food. I want to be a safe space for everyone. A neighborhood joint where authenticity and passion are served on a plate. I would love to focus on pastry - both sweet and savory.
