Receive Text UpdatesMy signature dish is Diri Djondjon Ak Pwa Tchous with griot and pikliz. Griot is Haiti’s national dish. It’s a dish deeply rooted in Haitian history, family, and resilience. I grew up eating it in the mountains of Haiti, and today I use it to tell stories, preserve culture, and bring people together around the table.
Who is your culinary inspiration? My greatest culinary inspiration is the women in my family and the people of Haiti, where I first learned that food is memory, community, and survival. I’m also inspired by chefs and storytellers like Marcus Samuelsson, Mashama Bailey, and Padma Lakshmi, who use food to honor culture, identity, and history. Their work reminds me that cooking can preserve stories and bring people together across generations.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the $25,000 to expand Haitian culinary experiences, create educational cooking programs, and preserve recipes and stories that are often overlooked. Food has the power to connect generations, cultures, and communities. This investment would help me bring Haitian cuisine to more tables, create opportunities for cultural education, and build a lasting platform that celebrates the richness of Haitian heritage through food.
