Jay Wilks

I don’t think I am a chef, but more of a Home cook. I grew up learning to cook and bake from my Grandmother & my Mother.

What is your signature dish?

While I don't have a "Signature" dish, everyone enjoys my garlic baked chicken, meatballs with homemade sauce, holiday cooking and my "famous" shortbread cookies with cherry filling on top. I love making vintage style meals. I grew up learning to use what was in the cupboard and as well as your imagination and never hold back on the herbs, spices and love.

Who is your culinary inspiration?

I loved watching Julia Child on PBS, but I learned baking, canning and affordable meals from my Grandmother and my Mom, who taught me how to cook from about age 8. I have a cookbook addiction with books from the 1930's to recent. I also love Nigella Lawson , Ina Garten, Martha Stewart and ATC (America's Test Kitchen)for their easy to follow recipes that never do you wrong.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off some bills, upgrade my kitchen equipment, take my husband and I on a cooking trip to Italy and maybe a small food truck offering basic homemade foods.
