Who is your culinary inspiration?My inspiration was my mom. She instilled a love of cooking in me. My mom grew up on a farm with little means. She learned to cook from what she had and not waste anything. In her adult life she was able to explore different cuisines. I remember after a trip to Italy she spent weeks making Foccia Bread (after taking a class there) until she got it right. We ate it every day! She cooked for her church and food was her comfort language. I embrace these same opportunities today.
What would you do with the $25,000?First, I would give 10% to Giving Kitchen because the food industry is hard. Many don’t understand all the hands that work to prepare and serve. GK offers support for food service workers in crisis. I would plan an immersive trip (like my mom) where I stay and learn. I would love to select/harvest the food, prepare the food, and share the food around a common table. Food brings people together in a way that nothing else does.
