Who or what inspires you to cook?

It was a culinary school commercial I saw when I was a little girl in Haiti that inspired me. Later on, Jacques Pepin and Julia Child’s show laid the foundation for me. I joined the US Navy as a cook after culinary school, I have a degree in food science, I taught at a culinary school, I’ve written food articles for local magazines, and I’ve made culinary appearances on local television. Right now, my focus is incorporating nutrition education with culinary techniques.

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

As an educator in the field, it’s hard to pick just one. I recently developed a Cajun pot pie recipe and I absolutely love the results. I fell in love with pot pies when I worked for KFC in Brooklyn during high school and I had yet to find one that could beat the Colonel’s recipe , until I developed mine. My favorite dish right now is my Cajun pot pie.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’m an advocate for homeless veterans. I slept in my car for 3 months during my senior year at Norfolk State and the experience changed the trajectory of my life. Not only did the experience humble me but it also made me realize that homelessness can happen to anyone. Therefore, helping my fellow vets get on their feet is a part of my mission. That money would allow me to buy my first house and donate some of it to the VETSHOUSE Inc, a half way home for veterans in Virginia Beach, Virginia
