My mom and dad inspired me. He was a baker by trade and she a wonderful down home cook. They were always trying new recipes. There were 10 in my family and we always sat down at the table to eat together. Each of us would have a turn to cook side by side with her. She nurtured us while cooking so I saw food as a way to bring people together and to comfort and share. Nothing beats the smiles on the faces of those who enjoy your food. That legacy is priceless. The kitchen is my happy place.
What's your all time favorite dish to make?I love combining strong flavors. I make a maple bacon meatball with an Orange ginger garlic bourbon sauce that can be served with rice, noodles or potatoes.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use that money to continue to teach more young people in my community culinary arts as I have since my wonderful husband gifted me for our anniversary a state of the art kitchen remodel. I have enjoyed watching those young people faces showing so much pride in what they have done. It’s not just about cooking. They learn life altering skills, safety in the kitchen, good communication skills, not to give up when you make mistakes because there will be many in the kitchen and in life.
