Who or what inspires you to cook?

The chefs I’ve met and the restaurants I’ve visited inspire me to cook with heart. Every dish I taste tells a story, and it pushes me to create food that sparks emotion and nostalgia. I’m driven by the feeling that a single bite can bring back a memory or create a new one. Cooking isn’t just about flavor—it’s about connection, and I strive to make every plate a meaningful experience.

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

My favorite dish to make is shokupan. It’s more than just bread—it’s a lesson in patience and precision. The slow process forces me to slow down and be present, and I actually enjoy that. Watching it rise, feeling the dough come together, and then seeing the final, fluffy loaf is incredibly satisfying. It reminds me that even the simplest things, when done with care, can be truly special.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d take a big step toward my dream of starting a small mobile sandwich cart—like an ice cream truck, but serving Japanese sandos and other Asian delights. I’d use the funds to buy and outfit the cart, source quality ingredients, and bring fun, flavorful food to the streets. It’s about sharing culture, creativity, and comfort in every bite.
