Who or what inspires you to cook?

My mom was my inspiration all through my life. My earliest memories were in the kitchen with her. She always baked and made dishes for church potlucks, holiday dinners, or friends-on-the-mend. I feel like food brings people together and feeds the soul. I love the episode of Chef's Table with Asma Khan and how she got started. Whether they knew each other or not, whoever came to eat connected over the food and love she brought to the table. I love this idea!

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

It's so hard to pick a favorite. I love Italian food and pasta. I really get into Asian cuisine - dishes packed with veggies and all kinds of meats and seafood, eggrolls, dumplings, kimchi, you name it. I make my own BBQ sauces and rubs.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to revamp my restaurant and create a place where people feel at home. My patrons are not customers; they are guests. They come back again and again because they feel like friends and family.
