Receive Text UpdatesIt’s how I care for my family and my community. 30-40% of food in America is thrown away every day, and every night there are families going to sleep hungry. My motivation is the knowledge that in my community I can prevent that from happening by providing those in-need with food that is not only nutritional, but comforting. We live in a world where kids are rationing bread and bologna and restaurants are throwing away filet- I want to change that.
What's your all time favorite dish to make?If I’m feeding myself, Gorgonzola crusted beef medallions with red wine Demi, served with smoked Gouda polenta and seared broccolini. If I’m feeding my family, they always agree on veggie stir fry with sticky rice - I use “fairy” corn, broccoli, mushrooms, sweet onions, red peppers, water chestnuts and sesame seeds. If I’m feeding en masse, my favorite thing to make is sweet onion baked chicken thighs and drumsticks, whipped sweet potatoes, and haricot vert.
What would you do with the $25,000?I help run a non-profit and I’ve seen firsthand the difference a hot meal can make to people and families in need. I will use the prize money to fund an outreach program that provides hot meals, healthy recipes, and take-home meal kits to underserved seniors, families, and communities.
