Receive Text UpdatesMy family and the people I get to engage with is why I cook. To see the look on peoples faces when they taste my cooking is such an encouragement. Being able to tell my story as well helps me to discover how important food is. Also being a farmer is such a powerful experience to know how to grow my own food, harvest, teach, and preserve is another important awareness to support. Especially for my people and community.
What's your all time favorite dish to make?I love all the dishes that I am able to evoke. But I were to pick one, I would have to say, the one that is most important to me and my story as a Navajo is what my team and I call "textures of squash." Where I take squash and prepare it 7 different ways. I would sear pucks out of the squash, along with raw ribbons, pickled ribbons, toast/crush the seeds, marinate the pulp, a savory puree, and roast the skin while mixing the ashes with salt to create a finishing seasoning.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would definitely be put to use in order to help create a food laboratory where I can teach, film, hold my library, have offices for my team, host dinners and have a place for research & development.
