Who or what inspires you to cook?

Food has always been how my family slows down and connects—a shared meal is time well spent. But beyond my own table, cooking is how I serve and care for others. It’s more than sustenance; it’s an expression of love, history, and belonging. A plate of food can comfort, inspire, and bring people together. That’s why I cook—not just to feed, but to create moments that matter.

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

Picking a favorite dish is like picking a favorite song. I guess it depends on the season and the feeling! I always return to the classics I grew up on: gumbo, jambalaya, or red beans and rice. Those are easy to prepare, have so much flavor, and rich with soul. They always make me feel like I'm home.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With a $25,000 prize, my greatest hope would be to give back to our Lubbock community. There are so many incredible nonprofit organizations here that serve those who need it most, and it would be an honor to support and sustain their vital work. I want to help nourish our community — to feed those who cannot feed themselves — and to invest in the organizations that bring hope, dignity, and care to our neighbors.
