Receive Text UpdatesFood has the unique ability to unite people like few other things can. In my free time, I cook for loved ones, research cooking equipment, brainstorm and test recipes, and think about how I can draw influences from my experiences. Cooking allows me to exhibit both the technical and creative sides of my personality and my passion for service. When I cook, I have the power to learn and teach about different cultures, unlock memories, and bring people together in a way that nothing but food can.
What's your all time favorite dish to make? There are so many to choose from, but one dish that always wins is a classic churrasco with homemade chimichurri. It is perfect for highlighting simple ingredients, it connects me to my Hispanic culture, and it reminds me of my childhood. My dad always made this growing up, and he laid the foundations for my cooking knowledge and provides me so much inspiration. Now, whenever my family asks me to make it, it warms my heart. I always make sure to let the chimichurri sit overnight before serving.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the money toward my goals of starting a popup restaurant or food truck, funding culinary school, or working in restaurants after I earn my Bachelor's Degree. My ultimate goal is to dedicate my life to food and cooking, but I have always struggled with how to break into the industry. The financial help, and more importantly the guidance from the partnering chefs and organizations whom I look up to, would be the greatest gift to help me achieve my dreams.
