Who or what inspires you to cook?

Lived experience. I grew up in a Jewish-American Navy family, so we made plenty from what we had. Later, I overcame childhood cancer and was even a Make-A-Wish kid. After finishing treatment, everything tasted new and different, and I wanted to try absolutely everything.

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

It's a toss-up between a chicken tagine in a Moroccan clay pot (in memory of my mom's best Passover dish), or a turkey ballotine with sauce piperade and pickled red onion and cabbage.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I want to one day get a food truck, making walk-about latkes filled with lamb kebab, bravas, curry, and other stuff. What's more diasporic than potatoes?
