Who or what inspires you to cook?

My first inspiration is of course my Mom, she taught us how to eat well & instilled incredible love for food. When I moved to the USA, I started cooking to survive, and also to revive the food memories from my childhood. I love to learn about different cultures, I love to travel, visit different grocery stores & get my inspiration. I’m curious about the ingredients, I bring those back & create recipes I feel humbled to see how breaking the bread can create love

What's your all time favorite dish to make?

It’s a humble bread made with sorghum flour. To me it’s a celebration of my roots and all the effort a farmer puts in to grow those. It’s seemingly simple, not sexy but it’s soul food and making a good Bhakri as it’s called takes practice and patience

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to start a culinary travel company where I take people along to some incredible places, learn the cuisine and culture and learn to cook. I feel this will create awareness, empathy and love amongst all. It will help us see that we are so alike!! Food is a love language that can cut across all the boundaries and the world needs that now for than ever
