Recreating some of my family favorites, and creating new dishes has always been a passion I hope to one day share with others.
I first started cooking in 2nd grade. I begged my mom to let me bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies-all by myself. Well after 1 cup of salt and a 1/4 tsp of sugar, an inedible mess, and a lecture on common sense, I learned to pay attention in the kitchen. After that day, I spent many nights watching cooking shows (instead of cartoons), and helping my mom mix up family favorites. I've enjoyed cooking for the past 7 years in my own catering company, ASE Catering and Prestwick by Memphis.
People have complimented me on my Cajun Spiced Low Country Seafood Boil, and Buttery Rich Rum Pound Cake. But for me, my favorite is my slow braised short ribs that are absolutely amazing. The Short Ribs take hours to cook - low and slow- in a savory bone marrow sauce, butter, a rich red wine and a few hints of this and that. It's fall off the bone goodness served atop a creamy bed of Parmigiano Polenta and yep, grilled Brussels Sprouts slightly glazed in maple and bacon. Makes my belly smile.
$50,000 will allow me an opportunity to kick start what has been a dream for many years - to open a restaurant and event center. I would also like to retail our brand of Southern Soul favorites, from our famiky recipes to be sold on specialty market shelves. I know $50k won't open the doors completely. It will, however, get me to the doorstep, have our brand recognized nationally and put my dream into action. The opportunity to be part of this contest is awesome. Thank you for your votes.
